Description
Spital Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in 1836, located on or near the site of St Leonard's Hospital, which is a medieval foundation. The building has been subject to later additions and alterations. It features rendered rubble on the front, incised stucco, and hammer-dressed quoins on a plinth. The roof is hipped and covered with graduated slate, with a chimney running along the ridge.
The farmhouse has a symmetrical front with two storeys and three bays, including three windows on each floor. On the north side, there is a single-storey central porch with a studded plank door beneath a hoodmould, flanked by a window on either side on both floors. All windows on the front and returns are 2-light, wood-mullioned, with pointed inner heads under rectangular hoodmoulds. The rear features an elliptical-headed door and windows, with a Yorkshire sash window on the first floor. Additionally, there is a lower wing adjoining to the east that was extended in the late 20th century.
