Description

This is a terrace of seven shops with residential flats above, built in the late 19th century. The buildings are constructed of snecked limestone with sandstone dressings, incorporating some applied half-timbering, and have slate roofs.

The symmetrical terrace features timber shop fronts separated by pilasters, with visible timber fascias above a glass canopy roof. The verandah is supported by slender cast-iron columns with foliage decoration to the plinths and capitals, and recessed entrance doors provide access to the flats. Above each shop on the first floor are three sash windows. The shops at each end of the terrace have central timber canted oriels. The central shop has a similar oriel that extends upwards into the attic storey, where it is flanked by two windows under a wide gable. The facade is divided into two halves, each with windows arranged 2-3-2 lights, rising into attic dormers, all sash windows with glazing bars to the upper panes. Half-timbered decoration and finials adorn the gables. Chimneys are positioned on the party walls between the buildings.
