Description
Grange-Over-Sands Railway Station is a railway station that was rebuilt around 1877 by E.G. Paley for the Furness Railway. It is constructed from snecked limestone rubble with rock-faced sandstone dressings and features a Westmorland slate roof. The main range of the building is symmetrical, with a layout of 1:2:1:2:1. The outer bays are two storeys tall and project under half-hipped roofs, while the central section is single-storey. Most windows are paired sash windows. The central entrance is located under a half-hipped gable and is accessed via an open timber porch. The building has ridge stacks, and on the south side, there is a timber canted bay window that overlooks the platform, which is sheltered by a five-bay glass canopy supported by cast-iron columns. The southern platform also has a similar canopy, with a screen wall that contains five windows, each with three round-headed lights. The gabled end pavilions feature carved bargeboards and windows with two round-headed lights separated by shafts.
