Description
This is a 16th-century threshing barn located to the east of Park House Farmhouse, with attached shippons to the north and east. The barn has been repurposed and now serves as a barn, with a blocked-up shippon that was originally accessed from the south gable. A shippon with a granary above was added to the north, likely in the 18th century. Additionally, a horse gin house, which features a curved wall, was added to the east across the wagon door during the 19th century and is now used as a shippon.
The structure is built from stone rubble, with protruding through stones visible on the shippon. It has a 4-foot plinth on the south gable end and a graduated greenslate roof with a stone ridge. The barn consists of eight bays, while the shippon has three bays. There is a later doorway with 20th-century doors in the northeast corner of the barn, and three windows, including one with a massive stone lintel and a door in the old horse gin house.
The barn's roof features massive upper cruck trusses that are pegged at the apex, with a ridge piece and ties at two levels, along with curved braces and two levels of trenched purlins with curved wind braces. The shippon has a king post roof with principals that are halved and pegged at the apex, along with three levels of trenched purlins and curved wind braces. There are 20th-century shippons added to the west, which are not of interest.
