Description
Braithwaite Bridge is an accommodation bridge built around 1816, likely designed by engineer John Fletcher based on the original designs of John Rennie, whose canal route was authorized in 1792. The bridge is constructed from squared, coursed limestone and features a limestone string course and copings, along with a rounded fender course. It has a single elliptical arch made of rusticated voussoirs and a keystone. The parapets are ramped and curved in plan, with flat tops and pilasters at each end. The distance between the parapets is approximately 3.5 meters.
