Description
The barns east of Toppin Castle were built in the mid-19th century and are associated with the house. They are constructed from dressed red sandstone and feature angle buttresses, topped with a Welsh slate roof that has coped gables and kneelers. The barns are two storeys tall and consist of several bays. A large projecting cart entrance is notable for its gabled roof, which also has coping and kneelers. The entrance features plank doors with a chamfered surround, an elliptical arch, and a hood mould. Slit vents with chamfered surrounds are present throughout. There is a lean-to building with a corrugated asbestos roof. L-shaped buildings extend to the left, also featuring slit vents and plank doors, while a building at right angles has a corrugated asbestos roof. These barns are included partly for their group value with Toppin Castle.
