Description

The Convent is an early 19th-century building located on the north side of Kirkby Street in Maryport. It is two storeys high and has a rendered exterior, featuring a moulded parapet and a modillion cornice. The right side of the building has rusticated quoins. There are three windows on the front, each with stone surrounds and moulded cills. The ground floor has two windows with marginal glazing bars set within reveals. The doorway is notable for its attached columns that have entasis and grooved capitals, topped with a modillion pediment and a semi-circular fanlight. The door itself consists of four panels and is accessed by a flight of steps that has a cast iron handrail, which has been replaced in the upper portion.
