Description
The Dixon monument is located in the north-west corner of Wetheral Churchyard. It commemorates Joseph Dixon of Broadwath, who died on 8 August 1844 at the age of 45. The monument is made of carved and moulded red sandstone and stands 2 metres high in a Grecian style. It features a chamfered base and a squared column that is inscribed on three sides. The top is adorned with a cornice and an ornate carved vase. There is no mason's name recorded on the monument. In addition to Joseph Dixon's inscription, it also records the deaths of other family members. The monument is included partly for its group value with the nearby Wetheral Church.
