Description

The Roman Wall, located west of the former Vicarage, dates from around 124 to 130 AD. It is constructed with calciferous sandstone facing stones and has rubble infill. This section of the wall, which is part of the Narrow Wall or Broad Wall foundations, measures approximately 200 meters in length and is up to 5 courses high in some areas. The wall was excavated in 1894 and is scheduled as an ancient monument.
