Description

Botcherby War Memorial is a First World War memorial built in 1921. It is made of grey granite and is situated at the corner of Warwick Road (A69) and Victoria Road, currently within the grounds of Botcherby Community Centre, having been moved from its original location near the school on Victoria Road in Botcherby, Cumbria. The memorial features a grey granite Latin cross with raised knotwork on a rough-hewn plinth. The front face of the plinth is partly smooth to display inscriptions and partly raised to include a relief-carved sword and wreath. The memorial stands on a two-stepped base, and the plinth is inscribed in leaded lettering. The inscription reads: "IN MEMORY AND HONOUR OF THE MEN OF BOTCHERBY WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR (NAMES) 'TO OUR GLORIOUS DEAD' 1914 – 1918."
