Description
Dover House is a house built in the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared red sandstone, featuring "headers" of whinstone that create an unusual Flemish bond pattern. The building has red sandstone dressings, with other walls made of rubble, and a blue slate roof.
The house is two storeys high and has two bays, with an irregular layout. It has a coped plinth that is interrupted by steps leading up to a top-glazed six-panel door, which is framed by voussoirs and a keystone, with V-jointed jambs that alternate on the right side. The left jamb is shared with an elliptical-arched carriage entrance at the far left, which also includes voussoirs and a keystone. The angles of the house are accented with similar quoins, and there is a moulded eaves cornice.
To the right of the door, there is a 20th-century replacement oriel bow window. Above, the house features sash windows with glazing bars set within architraves. Additionally, there is a flat dormer that was added in the 20th century.
