Description
Hudbeck and adjoining outbuildings consist of a farmhouse and an outbuilding, along with a former house that is now used as an outbuilding. The original house dates from the late 16th century or early 17th century, while the farmhouse and outbuilding were built in the early 18th century, with alterations made in 1867, as inscribed over the entrance.
The original house features red sandstone random rubble on a projecting plinth, topped with a graduated greenslate roof, although the chimneys have been removed. The present farmhouse has pebble-dashed walls with a painted eaves cornice, while the outbuilding has whitewashed rendered walls and a greenslate roof with coped gables and kneelers, along with ashlar and brick chimney stacks.
The original house is a single storey with an attic, comprising three bays and an extension to the right that has a single bay under a common roof. It includes 2- and 3-light chamfered stone-mullioned windows with carved hood moulds, a smaller fire window to the right, and a similar blocked central window, both in chamfered surrounds. The extension features an enlarged ground floor window with a Yorkshire sash above, also in a chamfered surround under a carved hood mould. The left end wall has external stone steps leading to a 19th-century loft door, and the rear wall has a 19th-century entrance to the right and an earlier entrance to the left. The upper floor has a 3-light attic window, although the stone mullions have been removed. Inside, there are two pairs of upper crucks.
The adjoining farmhouse and outbuilding are positioned at right angles to the right. The farmhouse features a 20th-century door and a glazed fanlight set within an early 18th-century shouldered architrave, complete with a date block and moulded cornice. It also has 19th-century 2-pane sash windows, and the upper floor window on the extreme right is in a moulded architrave. The front wall of the outbuilding to the right is blank, while the rear has plank doors on the ground floor and loft entrances.
