Description

The south portal of Blisworth Tunnel is a canal tunnel portal dating from around 1800, with restoration completed in 1980. It is constructed of red brick, which has been patched with blue brick. The portal features an elliptical arch, a brick-coped parapet, and a band at the base of the parapet. The tunnel itself was begun in 1797 and opened in 1805, making it one of the longest canal tunnels ever built, measuring 3,076 yards (2,820 metres) in length, and it is still in use today.
