Description
This is an early to mid-19th century villa built in the Italianate style. The building is constructed of ashlar and has been rendered with cement, topped with a Welsh slate roof. It is two storeys high and features chamfered quoins and an entablature with a dentil cornice.
The central block projects and has a parapet. On the first floor, there is a pair of sash windows in architrave surrounds. The ground floor includes a right-hand canted bay window and a later casement window set within its original pedimented surround.
The recessed wings have ground-floor Roman Doric two-arch arcades in front of arched windows and doors, each with a fanlight. Above, balconies feature a pierced ornamental parapet, and there are pairs of small arched sashes with pilasters, archivolts, and keystones. A projecting outer surround on the left-hand side has a 19th-century canted bay.
The recessed end wings have a right-hand ground-floor door with a fanlight and a first-floor pair of arched windows, as well as a floor-level entablature. The left-hand end wing is single-storey and has a similar doorway. The building forms a group with Nos 6 to 10 and Eastgate House, Derngate.
