Description
This is a row of four headstones located approximately 1 to 3 meters south of the south wall of the chancel of the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul. The headstones date from the 17th century and early 18th century and are made of ironstone.
The leftmost headstone features a round plaque topped with scrolls and a head, with a weathered inscription that dates to 1687, although the name is not visible. The second headstone from the left also has a round plaque with scrolls and a winged head, with a fragmentary inscription commemorating "Owen .... Igas," who died in 1666. The third headstone from the left has a plaque framed by draperies and topped with a head, commemorating Thomas Douglas, who died in 1719. The rightmost headstone has an inscription framed by draperies and topped with a winged head, commemorating Elizabeth Douglas, who died in 1726.
These headstones form an important group alongside the pathway leading to the church from the southeast.
