Description

The Long House, Old Post Office Cottage, and The Old School House are three cottages that form part of a row, dating from the early to mid-18th century. The Long House was altered in the late 20th century. They are constructed from coursed ironstone with thatched roofs, although the Long House features artificial slates and brick stacks.

The Old School House has a two-unit through passage plan with a later addition at the rear, while the Old Post Office Cottage also has a two-unit plan. The Long House is designed in an L-shape. Each cottage has two storeys and a two-window range. The Old School House features a central flush six-panelled part-glazed door and leaded light casements. The Old Post Office Cottage has a 19th-century plank door on the right and a small 19th-century shop window with two shaped lights and glazing bars. The first floor has wood and iron casements with numerous glazing bars, and there is a curved bread oven projection on the right. The Long House includes a late 20th-century door and leaded light casements, with wood lintels, mostly painted, throughout. The right return side of The Long House displays irregular fenestration and three flat-roofed dormers. At the rear, The Old School House has a 19th-century brick wing and an old single panel door.

Inside, The Old School House features an open fireplace and winder stairs, with stud partitions and old plank and panel doors. The Old Post Office Cottage is noted for having an open fireplace. These cottages are grouped with the nearby church and market cross base.
