Description

The Rose and Crown Inn and No. 12 is an inn and adjoining cottage with a store room, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. The buildings are not from the same construction period. They are built of regularly coursed ironstone with irregular quoins, and brick at the rear. The roofs are slate, with the Rose and Crown Inn featuring gable parapets and brick end stacks.

The inn has an L-shaped plan and stands three storeys tall with a three-window range. It has a flush six-panelled door with an overlight and a hood supported by shaped brackets. The ground floor includes canted bay windows, while the ground and first floors have 16-pane sash windows. The second floor features leaded light casements, and the upper floors have painted wood lintels. The rear of the inn is mainly brick, with a long irregular rear wing made of stone and brick.

The adjoining cottage is lower and has a double-depth plan. It also stands three storeys tall with a two-window range. There is a high carriage opening with plank doors, a plank door on the left with an adjacent window, and casements, most of which have glazing bars. The second floor has one leaded light window. At the rear, there is an external brick staircase leading to the store room. The interior has not been inspected.
