Description

The Griffin Inn is a 17th-century inn that has been altered and extended in the early 19th century. It features a sundial dated 1837. The building is constructed of regularly coursed ironstone with some brick, topped with corrugated iron and slate roofs. There are two stone stacks that have been partly rebuilt in brick, along with one brick stack. The inn has a three-unit plan that has been extended to form an L-plan, and it stands two storeys high with a three-window range.

The entrance includes a five-panelled door located in the second bay, with a painted sundial positioned above it. The ground floor windows feature mutilated hood moulds, with one window on the right having a wood lintel inserted below. The first floor boasts two painted stone three-light mullioned windows with hood moulds, while all other windows are casements, with glazing bars on the ground floor. A small casement window has been inserted above the sundial. To the left, there is a lower one-window range with a slate roof.

At the rear, there is a long irregular wing with a stone ground floor and a brick first floor, also covered with a slate roof, featuring 20th-century fenestration. Inside, there is a stepped stop-chamfered ceiling beam and an open fireplace with a stepped stop-chamfered bressumer. Additionally, there is a large wrought iron inn sign bracket.
