Description
The entrance screen to the avenue leading into Chase Park was built in 1868 by E.W. Godwin. It is made of limestone ashlar, partly banded with ironstone. The central gateway features double-leaf iron gates, which are flanked by tall gatepiers topped with ball finials. The quadrant walls curve forward from the gatepiers to screens on either side, which have balustrades interrupted by tall piers. Both the walls and piers are banded with ironstone. The screens continue with stone-coped walls on either side. This entrance screen faces Avenue Lodges and leads to the avenue into Yardley Chase, which is aligned with the entrance front of Castle Ashby.
