Description

The Old Red Lion Public House is likely a former farmhouse dating from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It features coursed squared ironstone with slate roofs and brick stacks, which are set on stone bases. The building is arranged in an L-plan with a lobby entry and has two storeys plus an attic, with a three-window range.

To the right of the centre, there is a four-panel part-glazed door with a wooden lintel and a straight hood supported by brackets. On the ground and first floors to the left of the centre, there are three-light casement windows with wooden lintels. The projecting wing on the right has a similar window on the ground floor gable, and above it, there is a three-light ovolo-moulded stone mullion window on the first floor, complete with a hood mould. In the attic gable, there is a two-light ovolo-moulded stone mullion window. The building also features quoins and a chamfered plinth, as well as a large blocked window on the first floor of the left gable end, which has a long hood mould.

Inside, the pub retains stop-chamfered spine beams and back-to-back open fireplaces with cambered stop-chamfered bressumers. There is an old stuff partition and stone-flagged floors.
