Description

Wrightons Cottage is a mid-18th century house, originally a farmhouse, with alterations dating to the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of coursed squared ironstone and ironstone rubble, with a reed thatched roof. A red brick end stack is on the left, and a stone end stack is on the right. The house has a three-unit plan and stands three storeys and an attic, with a three-window front. A part-glazed door is centrally located, with a similar door in a 20th-century porch to the right of centre. There's a 2-light casement between the doors, a 3-light casement to the ground floor left, and 2-light casements to the first floor; all windows have wood lintels. Quoins are present, and the left gable has a stone cope with kneelers. A two-storey extension to the right, originally lower, is now under the same roof. Inside, there are chamfered spine beams, one featuring ogee stops, and an open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer. The roof is a three-bay structure with two collars and two tiers of purlins. A single-storey stone extension with a thatched roof now fronts the street to the left, housing a double garage.
