Description
The gatepiers and gates at Gayton House are a pair of structures from the early 20th century, likely designed by the architect Clough Williams-Ellis for the Eykyn family. They are made of ashlar and wrought iron. The two square gatepiers feature moulded designs and have curving arms at the top that support Chinese-style lanterns. The gates, along with their subsidiary iron piers, are adorned with panels that have intricate lattice work and squared infill, topped with spike finials. A drawing of an alternative design for these gates by Clough Williams-Ellis is held in the RIBA Drawings Collection. The architect was a friend of the Eykyn family, who previously owned Gayton House, which was demolished in 1972.
