Description
The Little Braunston Lock at Bridge Number 4 on the Grand Union Canal is a lock built in the late 18th century, with renovations occurring in the 19th century. It features datestones from 1877 and 1872. The lock has red brick retaining walls topped with limestone ashlar coping, along with wooden gates and balance beams. The Grand Junction Canal was authorized by an Act of Parliament in 1793, and the section through Braunston was completed by 1796. In 1929, the canal was taken over by the Grand Union Canal Company, which led to a name change.
