Description
The carriage arch at Holdenby House, located approximately 130 metres southeast of the main building, dates back to 1583 and was constructed for Sir Christopher Hatton. It is made of limestone ashlar and squared coursed lias. The central archway features stepped voussoirs and a scroll pediment above, which is topped by a square obelisk. There are flanking niches in the lower section of the arch. This structure is one of a pair of carriage arches and is part of a site that is scheduled as an Ancient Monument.
