Description
Nos 1 and 3, Market Place, are a pair of buildings. The front dates from the 18th century, built onto a probable 17th-century core, with No 3 being more recently modernized. The front of Nos 1 and 3 is painted stucco, topped with a Welsh slate roof and three attic dormers, the two on No 3 having triangular pediments. A modillioned eaves cornice runs along the top. Five sash windows (one blocked) are set in moulded, keystoned frames. On the south side, No 1 features a modern shop window designed in an 18th-century style. No 3 has a modern three-sided bay window extending two stories, with a ground-floor shop front and a casement window of five lights on the first floor of the bay. The doorway of No 3 is topped by a flat hood supported by brackets. A carriageway leading to a yard is located to the south, featuring an elliptical arch with rusticated imposts. Rubble masonry sits above the carriageway, and a 19th-century red brick wing with a tiled roof extends to the east. The rear of No 3 shows a 17th-century rubble gable with modern and late 18th and 19th-century sash windows. A 17th-century wing sits to the north-east, both wings featuring modern brick stacks. The rear of Nos 1 and 3 has a stone slate roof.
