Description

This chest tomb, located 1 meter south of the southwest angle of the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, dates from the early 19th century and is made of limestone. It features a square shape on a moulded plinth with a low pedimented top. Each side has a pediment filled with an anthemion design flanked by leaf trails. The tomb is signed on the lower left of the south side by Baseley of Daventry. The inscriptions on each side commemorate members of the Chapman family, with the earliest on the south side marking the death of Thomas Chapman in 1823 at the age of 14.
