Description

The north entrance to Kilsby Railway Tunnel is a significant structure built around 1838. It is made of limestone ashlar and features a parabolic arch with a moulded stone surround and a machiolated cornice. The walls on either side of the tunnel entrance are constructed of brick and topped with stone coping. Kilsby Tunnel, which is 2,194 metres long, is part of the London to Birmingham railway and was constructed between 1833 and 1838 under the supervision of Robert Stephenson.
