Description
Walgrave House is a former rectory, now a house, reputedly built around 1687. It features banded ashlar limestone and lias with a slate roof. The building has a double depth plan and stands two storeys tall with an attic. The main elevation has a five-window range. The central 20th-century door is flanked by 19th-century casement windows with flat arch heads. The first-floor windows are also 19th-century casements, equipped with stone lintels and keyblocks. There is evidence of 2-light stone mullion windows in the cellar below the ground floor windows. The house has ashlar gable parapets and kneelers, along with three 19th-century roof dormers and brick stacks at each end. A large 19th-century extension at the rear includes a canted bay window on the south side. A datestone from 1687 is located on the south gable, although it is now illegible.
