Description

This building is a cottage and bakery, now a house, dating from the early 18th century with a later 18th-century extension and 20th-century alterations. It is constructed of coursed squared ironstone and features a reed thatch roof with brick end stacks. The structure has a unit plan and is two stories high with a two-window range. A 20th-century door is located to the left of center, framed by a moulded wood surround and a straight hood supported by brackets. To the right, there is a small one-light mezzanine window with a moulded stone surround, and a small blocked window to the far right with stone jambs and a lintel. The remaining windows are three-light 20th-century casements on both the ground and first floors, the latter set in eyebrow dormers. The building has quoins and stone-coped gables with kneelers. There is a large full-height extension from the 18th or early 19th century on the right, which was formerly used as a bakehouse. The right gable end was rebuilt in the 20th century. The roof features two dormers. Inside, there are ogee-stop-chamfered spine beams and a blocked inglenook. The former bakehouse, now a kitchen, contains a large part-blocked open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer. The roof structure is a collar-truss design.
