Description

Hyde Farmhouse is a house, originally a manor house and later a farmhouse, dating from the 14th century, and altered in the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with a plain-tile roof, brick ridge and end stacks. The house is of a hall house type. It has a two-storey, four-window front. A two-storey gabled porch is located to the left of the centre, featuring a round-arched doorway with a chamfered stone head and hood mould, and a six-pane sash window to the first floor with a hood mould. The porch also has a stone-coped gable. The fenestration is irregular, with two-light casement windows with wood lintels. A 19th-century bay window is situated to the right of the porch, with a further 19th-century dormer above. A two-storey window is also present. A 17th-century extension projects to the far left, with a gabled roof, a brick end stack to the front gable, a two-light casement to the ground floor and a three-light casement to the first floor, both with wood lintels. This wing formerly housed a dairy at ground floor level, now a kitchen. A datestone to the rear is inscribed with "JH/1742." A single-storey lean-to bay is located to the left gable end, behind the projecting wing. The interior consists of a two-bay hall and a two-bay parlour-solar at the upper end. The hall has been sub-divided horizontally, with an inserted stack backing onto a former cross passage leading from the porch. The parlour/solar area features a central truss with arch-braced collar, and stop-chamfered spine beams.
