Description

The carriage arch to the outer court of Holdenby Palace dates from 1583 and was built for Sir Christopher Hatton. It is constructed from limestone ashlar and squared coursed lias. The central archway features a stepped voussoir with a scroll pediment above, which is topped by a square obelisk. There are flanking niches in the bottom stage. This arch is one of a pair of carriage arches and the site is scheduled as an ancient monument.
