Description

Ye Olde Thatche is a cottage from the 18th century located on the east side of Byfield The Green. It is built from coursed squared ironstone and features a thatched roof with a brick ridge stack. The cottage has a two-unit lobby-entry plan and stands two storeys tall, with a two-window range. The ground floor has three-light casement windows with leaded lights; the left window has a stone lintel and keyblock, while the right has a timber lintel. The first floor features three-light casement windows with timber lintels set in eyebrow dormers. There is a plank door at the rear. Inside, the cottage includes re-used late medieval beams and rafters, as well as an open fireplace with a stop-chamfered bressumer.
