Description

Church House is a 17th-century house, with 19th and 20th-century alterations, located on the west side of Church Street, Byfield. It is constructed of coursed ironstone rubble with a tile roof, featuring brick ridge stacks and a stone end stack. The building follows a four-unit plan and has a five-window front. The central front door is a 9-panel door set within a 20th-century gabled porch, with a small 1-light window to the left that has a cemented stone lintel. To the right of the left-end window is a further 4-panel door, covered by a timber lintel. There are 3-light casement windows on both the ground and first floors, all with timber lintels. The right-hand coped gable is of stone. Internally, the house features spine beams and a 4-centred arch stone fireplace.
