Description

The Old Rectory is a house that was formerly a rectory, built in 1842 for Reverend J.C. Williams, with the design by architect Edward Haycock from Shrewsbury. The building has older farmhouse origins and is constructed from coursed squared ironstone, topped with a slate roof and featuring brick ridge and end stacks. It has an irregular double-depth plan and stands two storeys tall with a six-window range.

The front of the building is irregular, featuring two large gables and one smaller central gable, with a pinnacle above the large window that lights the staircase. To the right of the front is a porch that has a four-centred arch doorway with a hood mould, and above it is a datestone panel inscribed with "ICW 1842" and an ornamental shaped gable. The front door has four panes. There are slightly projecting wings on either side, each with brick stacks that have rounded angles at the gable ends. The windows throughout are two-light leaded wood mullion and transom types, with flat arch lintels. A notable feature is the two-storey canted bay on the right side of the building.

Inside, there is a staircase with stick balusters and a mahogany rail.
