Description
This is a row of three headstones located 1 meter east of the chancel of the Church of St. John the Baptist in Thorpe Mandeville. Dating from the 17th century and early 18th century, the headstones are made of ironstone.
The left headstone features a rectangular inscription plaque with a moulded frame, topped with deeply carved swags of flowers, fruit, and a winged cherub's head. It commemorates an individual named John, who died in 1686. The central headstone has a square inscription plaque framed by twisted columns and draperies, also topped with a cherub's head. This one is dedicated to Alice, the wife of John Ilife, who died in 1690. The right headstone displays an inscription plaque shaped like an open book, adorned with scrolls and a head, commemorating Anne and John Ilife, who died in 1717 and 1726, respectively.
