Description
Marston Hill Farmhouse is a house that dates from the early 18th century but was refronted in 1778, as indicated by the datestone above the main entrance. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features a slate roof with brick and stone stacks. It has an L-shaped plan and consists of two storeys, an attic, and a cellar, with three bays in total. The entrance is located in the second bay from the right and includes a stone lintel above a six-panel door with an overlight. To the right of the entrance, there is a three-light window with a stone lintel and 20th-century wooden mullions and transoms. All windows are fitted with leaded panes. The gable ends are coped and have kneelers. At the rear, there is an entrance to the cellar featuring a barrel ramp in the left bay. A wing to the right at the rear is lower than the main block and has a separate roof, consisting of two storeys and two bays with 20th-century windows. The interior has been remodelled in the 20th century, with original floors removed and a new staircase added, but it retains an original open fireplace and a bread oven. The farmhouse is said to have served as a sheep drovers' inn on the route to Banbury market.
