Description

Lane Cottage is an early 18th-century cottage built from squared uncoursed limestone, topped with an asbestos tile roof and flanked by brick stacks. The building has two storeys and an attic, with two bays. A central doorway features a wood lintel, a plank door, and a 20th-century gabled timber porch. On either side of the doorway are 3-light casement windows with wood lintels. The first-floor windows also have 3 lights, featuring stop-chamfered wood lintels, original moulded wood mullions, and iron casements. A 20th-century dormer is present on the roof. The gable ends are coped and have kneelers. To the left, there is a one-storey extension made of coursed squared limestone with a slate roof, which includes a 20th-century doorway in the second bay from the right and a 20th-century window on either side. There is a carriage entrance to the left with a wood lintel and double plank door. Inside, the cottage retains an original winder stair, though the fireplaces have been updated in the 20th century.
