Description

The Green Bridge is a bridge from the mid-18th century, constructed of dressed limestone. It features three arches with low depressed shapes, broad piers, and recessed rectangular panels above the arches. The bridge has uniform vermiculated rustication and corbel blocks at the cornice, and it does not have balustrades. On the west side, there are diagonal retaining walls that also display similar rustication. Originally, the bridge was situated between two lakes, with the lower lake still in existence. The bridge is higher on the west side and once functioned as a weir or low dam to maintain the water level in the now-drained lake to the east. It carried a drive from Horton Hall, which was demolished in 1936, through the park to the Menagerie and is located near the icehouse.
