Description
Numbers 56, 57, and 58 are a terrace of three estate cottages built around 1848 for the Althorp estate. They are constructed from coursed ironstone with a Flemish bond brick front and ironstone dressings. The cottages have a slate roof with stone coped gable ends and shaped kneelers, along with brick gable end and axial stacks.
The row of cottages is designed in a Neo-Tudor style and features a symmetrical two-storey facade with a 2:1:2 window arrangement. The central projecting gabled bay includes a canted bay window with battlements and a large three-light window above, which has a four-centred arch and a shield in the gable with a finial. On either side of the central bay are recessed porches with chamfered four-centred arches and arched rib doors, flanked by three-light wooden mullion-transom windows and two-light windows on the first floor. All windows are set in chamfered stone openings and have leaded pane casements, with the central first-floor window featuring pointed arch lights. At the rear, there is a central gabled wing flanked by single-storey outshuts, which include 19th-century leaded pane casements and plank doors.
