Description

The dovecote at Manor Farm is a Grade II* listed structure dating from the late 15th century, with restorations completed in 1917 and 1990. It is built from coursed limestone rubble and features a plain tiled roof with a circular plan that has a batter.

On the exterior, there is an ovolo-moulded string course beneath the surface. A plank door is located on the west side, set into the inner plane of the wall and topped with a flat timber lintel. Above the string course on the south side, there is a single light window opening with chamfered jambs and rebates for glass, secured by two vertical iron bars. Beneath this window, a doorway has been blocked. The dovecote is topped with a conical roof that has a hipped square lantern open on all sides. On the east side, there is a plaque that reads: "The Lords of the Manor repaired this dovecote tower AD 1917. R.S Mylne, BCL, Rector."

Inside, the window features splayed reveals. There are 19 tiers of nesting boxes, each with a continuous roosting ledge, although some of the lower nesting boxes have been blocked and their ledges removed. The roof is supported by two cross trees and two vertical timber posts leading to the lantern added in 1990, with plain common rafters completing the structure.
