Description
The former railway granary, built around 1880 for the Midland Railway, is now disused. It is constructed of red brick and features a parapeted slate hipped roof. The building has a long rectangular plan and stands three storeys tall, with a notably high ground floor. The front facade facing the road has a two-window range of multi-pane iron-framed windows set under segmental brick arches. To the right on the ground floor, there is a large double doorway with wooden doors. A projecting cornice runs around the building at eaves level, although it is simpler on the right (south) side. Above, there is a plain coped parapet. The left side of the building has a similar seven-window range with tall windows on the ground floor. Centrally located on the left side is a weather-boarded projecting hoist that extends through the two upper floors, with its roof gable rising above the parapet and a brick gable behind it. The rear of the building has a two-window range similar to the front, while the right side is blank. The interior has not been inspected.
