Description
Manor House is a house built in the early 19th century, which incorporates remains from the 17th century. It features squared coursed limestone and ashlar, with a roof made of tile and slate, and brick and stone stacks. The building has an L-plan and is double depth, standing two storeys high with an attic. The south front has three bays and a central doorway that includes panelled wooden pilasters, a semi-circular pediment on brackets, and a 20th-century glazed door. The windows have segmental heads and 20th-century metal casements. At the rear, a wing projects from the right side, dating back to the 17th century, with two storeys and casement windows that have wooden lintels.
Inside, there are sash windows and an open fireplace in the rear room on the ground floor. The front room features an early 19th-century inglenook fireplace with fitted seats, flanking cupboards, and a bacon cupboard under the lintel, all surrounded by wooden pilasters and a moulded entablature. The interior also includes re-used 17th-century panelling. The house is located on the site of the former mansion of the Pargetter family, which was remodelled in 1721 for Charles Howe and burnt down in 1793. The rear wing of the present house is said to incorporate remains of the service wing from the former house.
