Description
Greatworth Hall is a farmhouse dating from the early 18th century, with an enlargement in the early 19th century. It is constructed of squared coursed limestone and uncoursed rubble, topped with a slate roof and stone stacks. The building has a double depth plan and stands two storeys high with an attic, featuring three bays. The early 19th-century front includes a central porch made of rendered stone, supported by fluted Doric columns and topped with a straight entablature. The doorway, flanked by fluted pilasters, has a semi-circular fanlight above a 19th-century four-panel glazed door. Sash windows with sidelights are present on either side of the entrance, while plain sash windows are found on the first floor. There are 20th-century dormers added to the roof. At the rear, there is a semi-circular stair turret from the early 18th century, which has a small blocked window and a slate roof. On each side of the turret, there are three-light casement windows with wooden lintels, and the gables are coped with kneelers.
Inside, the ground floor room at the rear features chamfered joists and an open fireplace, along with a newel staircase. The front rooms are fitted with early 19th-century features, including shutters, fireplaces, and panelled doors. The ceilings are adorned with ornamental plaster borders and rosettes. A beam in the rear section of the house is said to be dated 1734, while the front was dated 1836, according to Mr. R. Adkins.
