Description

The Manor House is a house that was formerly a farmhouse, dating from the 17th century and extended around 1840, with medieval origins. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with limestone dressings and features a plain-tile roof with stone end stacks. The building has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys high with an attic, presenting a three-window range.

The central 19th-century door is topped with a four-centred chamfered stone head, which includes carved spandrels and a hood mould. The ground and first floors are adorned with three-light chamfered stone mullion windows, except for a two-light window at the centre of the first floor. The outer bays have gables, each featuring one-light windows with chamfered stone surrounds. The stone-coped gables are supported by kneelers.

At the rear, there is a two-storey parallel range with single-storey lean-to extensions. This building incorporates the 14th-century kitchen from the adjacent Hastings Manor House. Originally a detached, approximately square, two-storey structure located at the center of the rear range, it has a large end stack and stone-coped gables with kneelers. Remnants of central windows can still be seen at high levels on two sides. The Manor House is an important and rare example of a medieval detached domestic kitchen and is part of a group with the Court Parlour and the Church of St. Andrew.
