Description

Barnwell Mill Restaurant is a watermill that has been converted into a restaurant. It has origins dating back to the 17th century, with a datestone marked JN/1746, and features 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of squared coursed limestone and topped with a Collyweston slate roof. It has a rectangular plan and stands three storeys tall with a loft.

The front facade displays an irregular arrangement of five windows, which are casements with glazing bars set beneath wooden lintels. There are plank doors located at both the far left and right, along with a similar central door that is sheltered by a 20th-century wooden porch, all under wooden lintels. To the left of the porch, there is a door on the first floor that has a flight of 20th-century wooden steps leading up to it. The central loft gantry, which is weatherboarded, has been restored in the 20th century. Mill races run beneath the building to the left and right of the center.

On the far right, there is a 20th-century bay that matches the style of the original building and features a plank door on the first floor, also with wooden steps. The left gable includes a two-light stone mullion window, with a casement window situated above it. The rear elevation mirrors the front, featuring a two-light stone mullion window and a single-light window with a stone surround, while the other windows are casements with glazing bars. The date is inscribed on a quoin at the rear left corner. The interior has been remodeled in the 20th century, although some original structural elements remain.
