Description
The Garden Lodge and attached stables, located approximately 30 metres northwest of Wadenhoe House, were built in the mid-18th century and altered in the 20th century. They are constructed from squared coursed limestone with a Collyweston slate roof. Originally comprising two ranges of stables connected by a roofed carriage arch, the building has been converted for residential use, retaining a portion as stables. The stables originally had haylofts above, and part of the building is now two storeys high.
The garden-facing elevation features a three-window range of 20th-century casement windows, to the left of the carriage arch, with a central 20th-century door. A blank range is positioned to the right, with square air vents and one blocked window opening on the far right. A central wooden cupola with a weathervane sits atop the building. The elevation facing the former stable yard is similar, incorporating stable and hayloft doors to the left. The carriage arch has a segmental head, and a moulded cornice runs along the top. The interior was not inspected. The building is included on the list for its group value.
