Description

This outbuilding, possibly a former brewhouse that later served as a coach house and stable, dates from the mid to late 17th century, with alterations made in the late 18th or early 19th century. It is constructed of squared and coursed limestone and features a Collyweston stone slate roof, along with a brick stack at the rear. The building stands three storeys high and has 17th-century four-light wooden ovolo-moulded mullioned windows on the first and second floors, which are adorned with chamfered and stopped wooden lintels both inside and out. The windows were originally leaded, and the second light from the left in each window used to be an opening casement, as indicated by the gudgeon pins. Some of the lights still have vertical diamond-section wooden bars.

On the first floor, there is a doorway to the left with a chamfered wooden lintel and a plank door featuring old strap hinges. To the right on the ground floor, there is another doorway with a chamfered wooden lintel, and a former coach house doorway to the left, also with a wooden lintel. The front elevation includes a row of nesting boxes beneath the eaves. The left gable end features a late 18th or early 19th-century three-light wooden window on the first floor, which is ovolo moulded internally and was formerly leaded, along with a wooden lintel. Above this, on the second floor, there is a two-light wooden casement with chamfered mullion and stiles, which likely was also originally leaded.

Inside, the former stable to the right retains its stalls and chamfered joists. The first floor has old floorboards, two chamfered and stopped transverse beams, and two fireplaces in the rear wall. The three-bay roof is supported by tie-beam and collar trusses with queen struts.
