Description

The Chapel of St Hubert is a Roman Catholic chapel built in 1905, with a south chapel added in 1924 for Lord Vaux. It is constructed of limestone ashlar and features a lead roof. The chapel is designed in a Perpendicular style, resembling the Chantry Chapel at Higham Ferrers. The south elevation has a range of three windows, each with three lights, and is flanked by three-stage buttresses that end in panelled and crocketted pinnacles. The chapel has a castellated parapet with open tracery and a shallow gabled roof. In the center bay, there are two lead rainwater heads adorned with heraldic decoration. The south chapel, which is attached to the eastern bay, is a single-storey structure with one window and features five-light windows on the east and west sides. Below the east window, there is a single-storey vestry with a rainwater head dated 1905. The north elevation mirrors the south, with a small door at the west end that has a moulded stone surround and a four-centred head, displaying the initials A.M. and D.C. in the spandrels. Inside, the chapel is panelled in the Perpendicular style and features scenes from St Hubert's life on the altar reredos. The south chapel contains an alabaster reredos depicting Jesus in the tomb. The stained glass in the three east windows and the south chapel window is likely by Kempe. The chapel is located near Harrowden Hall and is included for its group value. The gardens and park surrounding the chapel are listed in the HBMC County Register of Gardens at Grade II*.
