Description
These steps, located approximately 60 meters southwest of the garden front of Kirby Hall, were likely built in the late 17th century and restored in the 20th century for Sir Christopher Hatton IV. Constructed from limestone ashlar, the steps form a semi-circular flight that originally connected the Great Garden to the South Terrace. They are part of the Winchelsea estate, which is under the guardianship of Historic England. Kirby Hall itself is recognized as an ancient monument, and these steps are included for their group value, as the Kirby Hall garden is listed in the Historic England County Register of gardens at Grade II*.
