Description

Gardener's Cottage and the wall attached to the southwest are a house and garden feature dating from the late 18th century and 19th century. The building is constructed of squared coursed limestone and has a Collyweston slate roof. It was originally designed with a two-unit plan and stands two storeys high with an attic. The front has a three-window range of 19th-century casement windows beneath wooden lintels. A central 19th-century part-glazed door is also located under a wooden lintel. There are three hipped eaves dormers with casement windows, as well as ashlar gable parapets and brick and stone stacks at either end. A 19th-century extension is present at the rear. The interior has not been inspected.

The wall to the left of the main front is likely from the 18th century but has been restored in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is made of red brick with a brick header coping and encloses part of the kitchen garden, along with the kitchen garden walls and attached gates and gatepiers located to the southwest of the Orangery and to the northeast of Gardener's Cottage. The kitchen garden walls are approximately 50 meters south of Gardener's Cottage. The gardens were probably originally laid out around 1676 for James Tryon.
